Born in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City in 1967,
Aya Ito (Reisui) is a Kyoto-based master instructor and cultural ambassador specializing in Omotesenke Tea Ceremony,
Ikenobo Ikebana, and Shodo Calligraphy.
In 2026, she was appointed as "Jun-katoku," one of the four highest professorial ranks within the Ikenobo school,
and serves as a Central Committee Member of the Ikenobo Kado-kai.
With an MBA from Osaka Public University and over 40 years of dedicated practice,she has introduced authentic Japanese cultural experiences to more than 23,000 international participants, VIPs,
government delegations, and luxury clients through her studios: Sakura Experience Japanese Culture (Nijo home classroom) and Kangetsu Kyoto (near Kiyomizu Temple,Ninenzaka).
Aya’s expertise is recognized globally, particularly in Europe.
As a Jun-katoku professor and Central Committee Member of the Ikenobo Kado-kai, she represents the highest echelon of the Ikenobo tradition.
She has been featured as an Ikebana professor in the French botanical magazine "blumenhaus," and her classes are officially recommended in the Gallimard "Cartoville" Kyoto guidebook. In March 2026, she exhibited her work at the prestigious "Spring Ikebana Exhibition" held at the Ikenobo Headquarters in Kyoto.
Her lectures offer a unique "Living Heritage" perspective,
sharing the 200-year legacy of the Ito family and the Shoguns,
as well as oral histories of the artists Awashima Chingaku and Kangetsu.
She also presents the resilience of her relative Kaneko Shibusawa,
second wife of Eiichi Shibusawa (featured on the new 10,000 yen banknote).
Aya is also one of the few certified instructors in Art Sushi (Kazarimaki) under the JSIA.
Raised in a family of masters—a Wasai (Kimono) school founder and a professional chef—and educated at a prestigious private girls' school,
she embodies the elegance and discipline of authentic Japanese culture.
Her sessions blend philosophical depth—silence, impermanence, discipline,
seasonal harmony,
and wabi-sabi—with hands-on workshops,
all delivered fluently in English.
